The Experience:

Six unforgettable days exploring the very best of wildlife, wilderness, and wonder on Vancouver Island. This is not a rushed sightseeing trip, but an intentionally paced safari through some of British Columbia’s most productive and breathtaking ecosystems. You’ll spend unhurried hours on the water watching sea otters drift through kelp forests, witness hundreds of bald eagles diving during a rare tidal feeding frenzy, and search for grizzly bears along remote estuaries in Knight Inlet. Between wildlife encounters, you’ll explore ancient forests, limestone caves, and the dramatic beaches of San Josef Bay. Every day is designed to balance adventure with comfort, excitement with stillness, and photography with pure appreciation of the wild.

Why This Vancouver Island Wildlife Tour Is Different

  1. Small Group. Maximum 6 Guests.

With a maximum of six guests, you’ll enjoy more space on boats, better photography positioning, and a quieter, more personal atmosphere. No crowded decks. No fighting for angles.

  2. Timed Around Nature and Not Schedules.

The Bald Eagle feeding spectacle happens once a year between May-July and very dependent on migratory hake and huge tides during this time of year. Humpback whales and Grizzly bear sightings are seasonal.
This itinerary is built around when wildlife is most active — not when it’s convenient.

  3. Two Eagle Sessions, Two Sea Otter Sessions.

Most tours offer one outing. You’ll have repeat opportunities to witness wildlife which dramatically increases success rates and improves photographic results.

  4. Private Boats for Key Experiences.

Your Eagle Show and Sea Otter tours are operated on private, enclosed boats with outdoor viewing areas and onboard washrooms, providing comfort without sacrificing access.

  5. Wildlife + Wilderness.

Many Vancouver Island tours focus only on whales.
    This journey includes:

    Grizzly bears in Knight Inlet

    Sea otters in Port Alice

Bald Eagles near the Discovery Islands

Humpbacks and orcas in Blackfish Sound

San Josef Bay’s wild west coastal landscapes

Karst formations at Little Huson Caves

It is one of the most complete wildlife tours on Northern Vancouver Island.

  6. Guidance Without Pressure.

Photography instruction is available throughout if you so desire. Whether you’re a beginner or experienced photographer, you’ll receive support tailored to your level.

This is a curated wildlife safari and not a mass-market excursion.

I've spent 16 years in the field photographing wildlife across Africa and North America. From tracking lions at dawn in the Sabi Sands to standing on a boat while hundreds of bald eagles dive for fish ten feet in front of me.

That time in the field has given me something you can't learn from a guidebook. I know how to read animal behaviour before it unfolds. I know where to position a small group for maximum access without disturbing what we came to see. And I know how to make sure every single person comes away with something they didn't expect. Whether that's a photograph they're genuinely proud of, or a moment that stays with them for the rest of their life.

I hold a Level 1 Bear Viewing Guide certification and completed my naturalist training in 2025. When we are in Knight Inlet searching for grizzlies or watching eagles work the tidal currents, I know what I am looking at, I know how to read the situation, and I know how to keep you and the wildlife safe.

I started Stephan Olivier Photography and Tours because I wanted to share these wild places with people who love them as much as I do. Not as a tour operator running groups through a checklist. As a certified naturalist and wildlife photographer who genuinely lives for these moments.

I keep this tour to a maximum of six guests for one reason. More than that and you stop experiencing the wilderness. You start watching it from a distance.

For specialist experiences like the grizzly bear day in Knight Inlet, I partner with certified local guides who know that territory intimately and do this as their full time work. That means you get the best of both worlds. My eye for wildlife photography and positioning throughout the entire trip, and local expert knowledge where it matters most for your safety and access.

On every single day of this tour, I am with you. That is not something every operator can say.
